UEFA has named the refereeing team for the first play-off match of the Conference League qualification round between Dynamo Kyiv and Turkish side Besiktas, which will take place next Thursday, 24 August, in Bucharest.
All referees of the upcoming match represent England. The on-field referee will be 37-year-old Darren England. He will be assisted on the lines by Simon Bennett and Daniel Robathan. The match will also utilise the VAR video assistant refereeing system.
Inglen has been a FIFA referee since 2022. Therefore, it is not surprising that he has little experience of European Cup matches: the Englishman has officiated only three such matches. The last time the Englishman was appointed by UEFA was for the meeting between Macedonian "Struga" and Lithuanian "Zalgiris" in the 1st qualifying round of the Champions League, which took place on 18 July.
Neither matches involving Dynamo Kyiv, nor matches involving other Ukrainian clubs have been refereed by Inglend so far.
As for the degree of severity of the head referee of the meeting between Dynamo and Besiktas, Ingland is a very loyal referee: he shows an average of three yellow cards per match, and gets a red card in every ninth match. The Austrian awards a penalty in about every third match under his stewardship.
