Former Ukraine national team defender Artem Fedetskiy shared his impressions of the September matches of the Ukrainian national team in Euro 2024 qualification - against England (1:1) and Italy (1:2).
Artem Fedetsky- Artem, what were your expectations before the matches of our national team with the British and Italians, and how did they reflect after the result?
- Comparing the two games, in my opinion, it was much easier for the Ukrainians to play with the British than with Italy. The Italians have a tactic with more dragging football, it is not easy to play with them. Of course, we had to take maximum points in both matches.
- How do you see the Ukrainian national team's tournament prospects in the next matches of the group stage?
- Despite earning one point in two matches, we still have a chance to get out of the group. We need to make the most of the next matches. The prospects remain pretty good. Now we won't count points and see who to play with. We will count at the end of the tournament.
- Which of the Ukrainian players could you single out in these two matches?
- Zinchenko played cool in the first match. The motor of the team. I liked the game of Sudakov, despite the mistake, which led to a missed goal. But still Sudakov is one of the leaders of the team. It's a pity that Yarmolenko played not in his optimal form. In general, the pattern of the game, in my opinion, was integral.
The national team played two tough matches against the giants of world football, showed a pretty decent game. Therefore, I think that we can safely add these matches to our asset.
- A few words about Sergei Rebrov. How has the national team changed under him?
- The team plays good football with Rebrov. Personally, I like Rebrov's team, there is a character, there is a coherent pattern of play. The team showed it in the matches of qualifying for the Euro. I will cheer and support the team, and I will objectively assess the game. After the matches against England and Italy, despite the result, I have only positive emotions. Of course, there are things to work on, but in general, the team demonstrates good football.
