FIFA announces nominees for the World Player of the Year award

FIFA has announced the candidates for the Best Men's Player award for 2023.

The nominees were selected based on the players' performances between 19 December 2022 and 20 August 2023. Thus, the achievements at the 2022 FIFA World Cup were not taken into account when selecting the winner.

The list includes 12 players: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), Bernardo Silva (Manchester City), Hvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli), Erling Holland (Manchester City), Julian Alvarez (Manchester City), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City/Barcelona), Rodri (Manchester City), Lionel Messi (PSG / Inter Miami), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Declan Rice (West Ham / Arsenal), Marcelo Brozovic (Inter / Al Nasr).

The winner will be determined by voting among fans, journalists, captains and coaches of the national teams.
