In the 70th minute Sheffield United brought on J. McAtee in place of O. Norwood, while Tottenham responded with their first substitution, bringing on P.M. Sarr in place of B. Johnson in the 80th minute. Moments later, Tottenham made two more substitutions, replacing M. Solomon with I. Perisic and Son Heung-Min with Richarlison. Sheffield United took the lead in the 74th minute when G. Hamer hit the back of the net, causing the fans to cheer. However, Tottenham were not going to accept defeat and their perseverance paid off in the final minutes of the match.

In the 81st minute, Sheffield United made a second substitution, replacing the goal scorer G. Hammer with T. Davies. In response to this substitution, Tottenham made a flurry of substitutions.
