At the start of the second half, both teams made substitutions, hoping to maintain the pace of the game with fresh energy. Atletico's Koke was replaced by Axel Witsel, while Real Madrid's Luka Modric was replaced by Joselu.
However, the hosts struck next - in the first minute of the second half, Morata scored his second goal of the match, further increasing Atletico's lead. "Real Madrid tried to fight back and made three substitutions in a row in the hope of finding a breakthrough. As time ran out, both teams made further substitutions in an attempt to maintain their form and build momentum. Benjamin Diaz replaced Toni Kroos in Real Madrid's line-up, while Atletico had Memphis Depay, Angel Correa and Juan Lino in place of Alvaro Morata, Jose Maria Gimenez and Joaquin Galan. In the end, Atletico came away with a deserved victory. The victory over arch rivals Real Madrid will surely boost the morale of Atletico and their fervent fans. On the other hand, Real Madrid will be disappointed that they could not recover the scoreline and will surely be looking to bounce back in the next match.
