Obolon defender Danylo Karas told us how his team is preparing for the match against Dynamo in the 1/8 finals of the Ukrainian Cup, which will take place today at the Brewers' home stadium, Obolon Arena.
- Dynamo is not a stranger to you, as you were part of the club's structure in 2016-18. Do you feel the principled nature of the confrontation?
- Of course! Not only because I played for this club, but because it is a grande dame of Ukrainian football against whom I want to play and test my strength and, of course, to prove myself as best I can.
- What are your impressions of being a member of the Brewers?
- Only positive ones. There is a good team here and a pleasant atmosphere in which you want to work and win.
- What do you expect from the cup match?
- Cup matches are usually very exciting, both for the fans and the players themselves. Everyone is focused on spectacular and open football. That's why I expect it to be very hot!
- How would you rate Obolon's start to the UPL season?
- After all the matches we have played, there is a slight residue that we could have got more points, but this is experience and we are on the right track. We have drawn conclusions and are focusing on the next matches.
- Obolon often uses different tactical schemes and changes its line-up. In what position and with what tactics do you feel most comfortable?
- In fact, it doesn't matter where I play. The main thing is to go out on the pitch and bring value to the club, to improve and progress in every game.
- This season, you have already played against Dynamo, how would you assess their level at the moment?
- In the last game against Dynamo, it was not easy, but we proved ourselves worthy against the giants of Ukrainian football and put up a good fight!
- In that match, you managed to score a goal. It's also interesting that it was your first goal for Obolon. Tell us what emotions you had at that moment and would you like to repeat your success in the Ukrainian Cup?
- It was a very pleasant feeling, because not every match gives you the opportunity to score. I want to experience such emotions as often as possible. Moreover, it was my first goal in a Brewers shirt, and I also scored a goal for such a club. Of course, I want to score in a cup match.
- Did you feel in that last match that it was a derby that hadn't happened in Kyiv for a long time?
- Of course I did! Kyiv lacks such matches and the fans will agree with me. Such games decorate Ukrainian football and the championship in general. But, unfortunately, there are not enough fans in the stands for the full picture!
- What can you say to the fans, as well as to those who continue to follow Ukrainian football at the frontline?
- Thank you for your support and faith in the team! We feel it and want to repay it by showing who we really are in every game. And we also want to distract people a little bit in such difficult times! We are very grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for protecting us and giving us the opportunity to do what we love. Glory to Ukraine!
