This week the matches of the 1/8 finals of the Cup of Ukraine season-2023/24 are held. In one of them on Wednesday, 27 September, Kyiv Obolon and Dynamo met at the Obolon Arena stadium in Kyiv.

"Dynamo" tried to press "Obolon" to the goal from the starting whistle, and Lucescu's wards managed to do it in a sense, but Dynamo could not bring their actions to the actual sharpness - the hosts defended, as a whole, reliably. At the same time, the Brewers themselves were persistently looking for chances in attack. And on 12 minutes Obolon could have opened the scoring: Brazhko rudely made a mistake in his own half of the pitch, not hitting the ball, as a result Sukhanov went one-on-one with Nescheret, but he hesitated while handling the ball and the moment was missed.
"Dynamo were for the first time close to success on the 21st minute of the game, when a multi-move through the central zone ended with Buyalskiy's pass to Benito in Obolon's penalty area, the latter unhinderedly struck from eight metres, but sent the ball over the crossbar.
However, after that Obolon created a whole series of dangerous moments at Dynamo's goal within some five minutes. First, on the 28th minute of the match, after a feed from the left flank from Osman, the Bilo-Syni defenders completely missed Krasnopyr, and he made a clear, prepared and, most importantly, accurate header from the corner of the goalkeeper's area, and only Nescheret's reaction saved the Bilo-Syni from conceding a goal. Two minutes later Sukhanov, having received a pass on the left flank, easily beat Bilovar, moved to the central zone and shot from the penalty area line - the ball almost hit the far crossbar of Dynamo's goal. Then after a corner kick Priymak shot with his head - Nescheret again played reliably. Finally, in the 33rd minute of the match another attack of Obolon ended with Krasnopyr's shot from the right side of the penalty area - this time Dynamo goalkeeper reached the ball in a throw not without difficulty.
The guests responded to it with another shot by Benito from a penalty position, but, shooting from 10 metres, the Dynamo striker again sent the ball past Kichak's goal. Andriyevskyi's shot from outside the penalty area was also memorable, but it was inaccurate. As a result, the teams went into the break with zeros on the scoreboard.
In the second half, the teams demonstrated more positional football, acting with less risk and with more attention to their backs. Nevertheless, in the 57th minute Obolon managed to achieve success - Sukhanov, having received a pass in the central zone, shot from 18 metres, and the ball hit the bar and then bounced into the net - 1:0.
Interestingly, having taken the lead, Obolon did not even think of "rolling back" to their half of the pitch, and still tried to control the ball. But, of course, over time Dynamo's desire to win back outweighed, and from about 65 minutes of the match the game began to go under the sign of positional advantage of the Bilo-Syni, and the Brewers now concentrated their efforts on defence and counterplay.
But only on the 84th minute of the match Dynamo finally managed to create a goal moment - it was Buyalskyi who shot accurately and strongly downwards, and Kichak had to make a great effort to convert it to a corner kick. And after a feed from the corner of the pitch Yarmolenko managed to shoot with his head in a difficult situation, but again Obolon were saved by Kichak - he reached the ball at the goal line. Finally, in the 87th minute of the game, Buyalskyi, shooting from a free kick, hit the crossbar.
Well, Dynamo could not achieve more this evening, so the chief referee, as a result, recorded a minimal victory for Obolon - 1:0. Thus, Dynamo failed to solve the problem of reaching the 1/4 finals of the Ukrainian Cup (we would like to remind that none of the stages of the tournament provides for return matches).
We would like to add that in its next match Dynamo will play with Oleksandriya within the 9th round of the Ukrainian Championship. This match will take place next Sunday, 1 October, in Kyiv at the Dynamo stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskiy (kick-off - at 19:00).
