Three Dynamo players barely lift a heavy trophyIn those years, the UEFA Super Cup was played in two matches. The winner of the Champions Cup (now the Champions League) and the winner of the Cup of Cups (no longer played) - Bayern Munich and Dynamo Kyiv - met. The match in Germany was sensationally won by the Kyiv team, thanks to a miracle goal by Blokhin - 1-0.
And here is the return match on 6 October. The game caused an incredible stir - with a capacity of 100,000 at the Central Stadium (now the NSC Olimpiyskiy), 650,000 applications for tickets were received! Kyiv won again - 2-0, and again both goals were scored by Blokhin.
This is how Yakiv Pohrebniak, who supervised the Kyiv team in those years on behalf of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Volodymyr Shcherbytskyi, recalled the match.
"I witnessed almost all of Dynamo's home games, but this one against Bayern was special. When Blokhin scored the second goal and it became clear that Dynamo would not miss out on victory, I looked at Shcherbytskyi and saw tears shining in his eyes. He was such a man - both firm and sentimental. We were as happy as parents who had just had a child. Then we invited Lobanovsky and Bazylevych to lunch. We drank a little. I had wine, and Shcherbytskyi had a glass of vodka. I think Lobanovskyi also drank vodka.
How did you encourage Dynamo? Before all the important games, I came to the base. Lobanovskyi would speak out: "Yakiv Petrovych, we need so many cars and apartments." I asked: "And for whom?". He said: "We'll figure it out ourselves". It was the same on the eve of the Super Bowl. I think it was about five cars (Volgas and Zhiguli were given out), four apartments and the sum of 10,000 rubles for bonuses," Pogrebnyak said.
