Benfica U-17 midfielder Andre Vakaliuk has every chance of continuing his performances for the Ukrainian youth teams.
Volodymyr Yezerskyi, the coach of the 2007 national team of Ukraine, is interested in the services of the Portuguese midfielder. According to the source, the player's family and the player himself have agreed to play for the Ukrainian national team.
Vakaliuk is the son of Ukrainian immigrants who was born in Portugal. He is a pupil of Benfica and plays for the U-17 team. To play for the Ukrainian national team, he needs to acquire Ukrainian citizenship. The player's family even travelled from Portugal to Madrid for this purpose, but the process of obtaining a Ukrainian passport will take several months.
Thus, Vakaliuk will not help the Ukrainian national team in the first stage of qualification for Euro U-17. The coaching staff hopes that the player will wear a yellow and blue shirt in the next qualifying round in 2024.
Andre plays as a central midfielder. He has been at Benfica's Academy since 2018. He was one of the candidates for the Portuguese national team born in 2007.
From 15 to 21 October, the national team of Ukraine born in 2007 will hold the first round of qualification for Euro U-17. Among the rivals are the teams of Germany, Finland and Liechtenstein (the host of the competition). The two best teams will qualify for the elite round.
