As previously reported, UEFA has named the refereeing team for the Euro 2024 qualifying match between Ukraine and North Macedonia, which will be held next Saturday, 14 October, in Prague. All referees represent Slovenia, and Slavko Vincic will be the chief referee of the meeting.
Vincic, 43, has been refereeing matches in Slovenia's elite division since 2007 and became a FIFA referee in 2010.
Vincic will not be the first time to officiate a match involving the national team of Ukraine. In September 2021, the Slovenian worked as the chief referee at the match of the qualifying cycle of the World Cup-2022 Ukraine - France (1:1), in which he showed three yellow cards.
Vincic is familiar with Ukrainian football at the club level. He refereed three matches involving Shakhtar Donetsk. In the season-2020/21, the Slovenian refereed a draw (0-0) in the Pitmen's away match against Italian Inter in the Champions League group stage; a season earlier, Vincic officiated another match in this tournament - Manchester City vs Shakhtar (0. 0) and finally, in the season-2020/21, he officiated the match between Shakhtar and Manchester City (0. 0):0: 0) and, finally, in the 20161/7 season this referee worked at the Donets' return leg against Spanish Celta (0:2) in the Europa League play-offs (then the Slovenian referee showed nine yellow cards).
In addition, Vincic has twice been the chief referee of international matches involving Dynamo Kyiv. In the season-2018/19, Vincic refereed the Europa League group stage match between London Chelsea and the Bilo-Syni (3:0), and in the season-2014/15 - the away match between Kyiv and French Gengam (also a defeat for Dynamo, 1:2) in the 1/16 finals of the Europa League (7 yellow cards, two suspensions).
The last time Vincic was appointed by UEFA was for the match of the group stage of the current Champions League between Lazio Rome and Atletico Madrid (5 yellow cards, no penalties, no penalties).
Vincic has a total of 120 international matches under his belt, including 42 within the qualifying cycles of the World and European Championships and the final stages of these tournaments.
We would like to add that Vincic is a rather loyal referee: he shows an average of four yellow cards per match, and suspends players in every fourth game under his arbitration.
