The legendary Ukrainian former Dynamo Kyiv and AC Milan forward Andriy Shevchenko has revealed the real reason for his failure while playing for Chelsea in London.
Shevchenko admitted that after the 2006 World Cup he arrived in England with back problems and had undergone surgery.
- I would like people to understand that my difficulties were related to physical problems. The fans were great with me, but unfortunately I didn't get to show them my best. I was afraid I would have to retire from football. I felt bad for the people and the club. I would have given the world to return the affection they showed me. Instead, I was broken.
The newspapers criticised me harshly, but only I knew the real problem: that damn fatigue that wouldn't go away. I had lost all my strength. I was in great shape - it was the worst possible time to get injured. I was barely a shadow of the player I used to be," The Sun quotes Shevchenko as saying in his book My Life, My Football.
