According to the source, more than 120 soldiers, together with the police, are looking for the footballer's father in northern Colombia. The army said in a statement that it had set up roadblocks and used two motorised platoons, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and a radar aircraft to search for the hostage.

Earlier, Colombian Prosecutor Francisco Barbosa said that Diaz's abducted father may already be in Venezuela.

According to media reports, Diaz's parents were travelling by car in the player's hometown of Barrancas in the Guajira department of Colombia when the kidnappers on motorbikes blocked the road. The Colombian footballer's mother and father were taken away from the kidnapping scene in their own vehicle.
