The English Football Association has opened its own investigation into Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Earlier, the Italian international was banned for 10 months after admitting numerous gambling violations during his career at Brescia and AC Milan. According to The Telegraph, the 23-year-old could face even more problems if it is discovered that he placed bets after his transfer to Newcastle.
The FA is likely to decide that its own punishment, if any, will run concurrently with the player's existing suspension. That is, there are no plans to increase the 10-month suspension period.
