After the defeat in the derby against Shakhtar (0:1) in the Ukrainian championship, Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu decided to resign. Famous former Dynamo player Stefan Reszko gave his assessment of the Romanian specialist's work at the Kyiv club:
- Lucescu started as a champion. Having got at his disposal a fairly capable team, he took care of creating the necessary microclimate, and his new charges won all tournaments on the Ukrainian arena without much difficulty. But after Dynamo sold their leaders profitably and did not acquire qualified performers in return, I doubted that Mircea would do well in the future.
- From this point, please, more specifically.
- When Lucescu led Shakhtar for many years, the club management created very comfortable conditions for him, buying qualified Brazilians for a lot of money. After all, it is no secret that Lucescu always relied on foreigners. At Dynamo the situation was quite different. Most likely, the club management expected that the Romanian manager would prepare "stars" from home-grown performers. And Mircea had problems with it for various reasons. This is what can explain the unconvincing results of Kyiv in recent years, both in the international and domestic arena.
- Do you think that Lucescu has exhausted himself at Dynamo?
- I would not say so categorically. Still, Lucescu has achieved a lot of successes in his coaching career. In my opinion, he should have left earlier. Perhaps, Mircea would be in the limelight again in some other foreign team.
- Is Oleksandr Shovkovskiy at the helm of Dynamo for a long time?
- It is difficult to say. Everything will depend on the results of Dynamo in the next rounds and on the plans of the president Igor Surkis. Although, frankly speaking, the prospects of Kyiv team are not encouraging.
