Ranocchia came on for Empoli, while E. Gyasi replaced N. Cambiaggi. The substitutions energised the match and both sides started to strive for a goal.

However, the joy was short-lived: in the 87th minute another goal was cancelled, scored by F. Caputo from offside. In the 88th minute Frosinone made the last substitution, replacing M. Sule with A. Ojono. Ojono. Despite Empoli's attempts to equalise, Frosinone held on for a hard-fought victory.
