Former Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu commented on the latest developments related to his resignation, the resonant interview with a Russian publication and the statements made in the press on his behalf. The Romanian expert's response was quite emotional. Without denying the fact of the interview, Lucescu explained what the conversation was about.

"First of all, I want to say that my last interview was about football, only football, not war and politics. If I had been asked directly about returning to Russia, I would have said that I would never return to a country that breeds evil and starts wars.

I worked here in Kyiv with Dynamo and saw with my own eyes all the horrors of war that Russia brought. I didn't leave the team, I trained the players under air raid alerts and helped evacuate their families. I experienced all this firsthand, so what can we talk about returning to Russia?

My main dream now is peace and tranquillity in Ukraine. It is safety for Ukrainians, full stadiums and prosperity for this wonderful country.

I know that there will definitely be questions about Tymoshchuk in the future. The last time we spoke was before the full-scale invasion. I don't understand his political position, and I don't want to talk about this person anymore, although we used to be close and he was my assistant at Zenit.

As for my future career, I am not going to retire now. I want to return to big football, I want to coach teams that will play at the European level. Football can work wonders, I remember when we were building stadiums in Europe, when Ukrainians came to the matches and could forget what was happening in their homeland at least for a while.

I don't want to leave Ukraine as an enemy. I was the only foreign coach who did not leave Ukraine during the war, I was with Dynamo and the country all this time. I want you to remember me as a person who helped develop Ukrainian football and Ukrainian sport.

Once again, I want to say that I will never return to work in Russia. After what I have seen with my own eyes in Ukraine, this is out of the question. russia is terrorism, it is death and pain. This country took away my second home, Donetsk. And it wanted to take away my third - Kyiv.

Do not believe everything you see. In my last interview, we talked exclusively about football, and the journalists have already thought of all the other questions and answers - about the war and politics - for me. Remember me as a man who loves Ukraine!" said Lucescu.

As a reminder, Lucescu resigned after Dynamo's 0-1 defeat to Shakhtar. The Romanian specialist has been in charge of the Kyiv team since 2020. In the first season under the Romanian's leadership, the White and Blues became the champions of Ukraine and also won the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.
