A minute later Napoli made a third substitution, bringing on F. Anguissa instead of J. Cahuste. The teams were looking for fresh energies on the pitch to influence the result. The intensity of the game remained high, when in the 72nd minute Napoli decided to make a fourth substitution: M. Politano came on in place of J. Lindström.
In the 78th minute, Empoli's M. Cancellieri received a yellow card, indicating the physical nature of the match. In the 80th minute Empoli made two substitutions. F. Ranocchia came on in place of A. Grassi, and M. Cancellieri was replaced by D. Maldini. Maldini. This tactical move by Empoli was aimed at maintaining stability in defence and surprising Napoli with fresh attacking opportunities. With only six minutes left in the match, Napoli made their fifth and final substitution. Instead of M. Rui, M. Olivera took the field. Both teams tried to break the deadlock and achieve victory, but in the last minutes of the match Empoli struck a decisive blow. In the 90th minute V. Kovalenko scored the only goal of the match, causing jubilation of the fans. However, the tension remained high, and in the same minute Napoli player H. Kakhuste received a yellow card. The match ended with Empoli defeating Napoli in a hard fought victory. It was a terrific display of skill, strategy and determination from both sides.
