Former Shakhtar Donetsk striker Andriy Vorobey has commented on his former team's 1-3 defeat to Dnipro-1 in yesterday's match of the 14th round of the Ukrainian Premier League.
"Two good teams played, and Dnipro-1 deserved great compliments because under Maksymov's leadership, the team transformed and played. And they played good, high-quality, deliberate football that brings points.
Until the first conceded goal, Shakhtar were a pleasure to watch. The team was very good at switching from defence to attack, cutting off 5-6 opponents. Of course, it was necessary to bring the score to a more acceptable level in the first half, which we failed to do. And then the standards and Hutsulyak's super goal played against Shakhtar. Dnipro-1 may have been a little more fortunate. But to their credit, they deserved it more.
It was striking to see that Shakhtar were trying to play through skill all game, not teamwork. And after the first conceded goal, and especially after the second, we had to play more aggressively and with more desire, efficiency and character. But the Miners continued to play at the expense of skill. In such a situation, it will not work. It was noticeable that they were doing well with the ball, but when they got to the other team's penalty area, they didn't know what to do - no one was opening up, so they still needed to work harder and harder in the final phase. The team had a plan A, but there was no plan B," Vorobey was quoted as saying by the UPL TV telegram channel.
