The draw for the Euro 2024 finals will take place in Hamburg in December. But it is already possible to get a rough idea of what the baskets will look like before the draw.
We would like to remind you that 24 national teams will take part in Euro 2024. All of them before the draw for the group stage of the tournament will be divided into four baskets - six teams in each. Accordingly, the draw will result in the formation of six groups - four teams in each.
According to the regulations, the first basket should be formed by Germany as the host country of the European Championship, as well as the best five teams from among those who won their qualifying groups for Euro 2024. The remaining five qualifying group winners will be placed in the second basket, with the best of the teams that finished second in their groups.
A further nine 'second' teams, in order of their performance in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, will fill the positions in the third and fourth baskets. On top of that, the fourth basket will be completed by the three winners of the Euro 2024 play-offs for the Nations League quota (their names will not be known at the time of the draw - the play-offs will take place in March next year).
Taking into account the current state of the standings of the Euro-2024 qualifying groups, the preliminary composition of the baskets for the draw for the final part of the tournament is as follows (17 teams that have already qualified for the European Championship are given).
Basket1: Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium, vacancy.
Basket2: Hungary, Turkey, Denmark, Albania, Romania, Austria.
Basket3: Scotland, Slovakia, Netherlands, Serbia and two vacancies
Basket4: Switzerland, two vacancies and three play-off winners.
