Former Kiev head coach Mircea Lucescu is unhappy with the current number of participants (24) in the final part of the European Championship.
"There are very many teams that reached the final stage of Euro 2024. When I already became a coach, there were only 8 teams at the European Championships. And now there are as many as 24! And at the World Cup there are 32 teams, and soon this number will become 48.
As a result, very small countries can end up at the European Championships as well as at the World Cup. For example, Kazakhstan still has a chance to qualify for Euro 2024 (through the play-offs on the way to the Nations League - ed.). If that happens, it would be something completely abnormal. It is simply unbelievable that UEFA allows something like this to happen," Gazeta Sporturilor quoted Lucescu as saying.
