Former Volyn head coach Vitalii Kvartsianyi spoke about his conflict with Viacheslav Shevchuk.
Vitaly Kvartsyanyi- I have always had a good relationship with Shevchuk, but recently he surprised me with his behaviour, so I don't want to talk about him. He doesn't exist for me now.
- What happened?
- He decided to "thank" me for all the good things I had done for him. When there were elections to the Volyn Football Association, Shevchuk started a campaign against me, supported my competitor and asked me to withdraw my candidacy from the elections. It's not enemies who betray, it's friends.
But so be it, I will tell the story about him.
- Here goes.
- In a game for Ukraine's youth team against Turkey, Shevchuk suffered an ankle injury, and they didn't want to call him up afterwards, but I offered him to the youth coaches again. I said: "I'm patient, and you should be patient. He will soon reveal himself". Shevchuk made a lot of mistakes back then, but I trusted him because I saw his potential.
I brought him to the national team base in Koncha Zaspa. The youth team lived at the old base, and the main team at the new one. The guards did not let them in. I said: "Call Luzhnyi". Oleh came, I told him: "Take care of my son Slavik: don't let anyone hurt him, make sure he eats well, etc. Take him under your wing, he will soon be in the first team".
I was very pleased when Luzhnyi led the Ukrainian national team as captain, and Shevchuk with an armband led the youth team. It's a shame that Slava forgot all that and turned against me.
