Former Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu has expressed his opinion on the importance of maintaining competition in the team.
"The main thing is to feel and maintain enthusiasm. At Shakhtar, when we used to go for training in the summer, we used to come up with all sorts of games and competitions with the players in the pool. I organised underwater races for them to see who would win. I was looking for ways to teach them to be competitive at all times. That's part of any football player's education. You have to get every player to turn every moment into a competition.
After all, football is a competition, first and foremost, with yourself. Competition with the ball, with the opponent, with a teammate. Team training should be centred around competition. Messi and Ronaldo are helped a lot by the fact that they always want to be number one. It keeps them at that level," Lucescu was quoted by Fanatik.
