Former Italian AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko spoke about the emotions he felt for a long time after the final of the Champions League season-2004/05, in which his team lost to English Liverpool, despite winning the first half with a resounding score of 3:0. In the second half of that encounter, the Reds managed three goals back within six minutes before it came down to a penalty shootout in which Liverpool were the stronger side (3-2) and Shevchenko was one of those in the Milan squad who failed to convert his spot kick.
"I'll be honest with you, for three months after that final I couldn't sleep. I was constantly waking up either in the morning or at night. Once again I switched on the tape of that match and replayed its episodes over and over again. And, of course, my attention was always drawn to the moment when the Liverpool goalkeeper made a double save.
I have to pay tribute to the spirit of the Liverpool players, but especially the Liverpool fans. That special noise and that special support, I think, made the difference. "You'll Never Walk Alone" is a famous phrase when we talk about Liverpool and I think it really energised the players. Something clicked in six minutes, our opponent scored those goals and then everything changed," This Is Anfield quoted Shevchenko as saying.
