The Turkish Super Cup match between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray was supposed to take place yesterday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. But this meeting never started. The reason for this was the decisions of the Saudi authorities.
Both Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray were going to go to the warm-up match wearing T-shirts with quotes of the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in honour of its 100th anniversary, but local officials banned this initiative.
"Galatasaray wanted to use the quote "How happy is he who says he is a Turk", while Fenerbahçe's T-shirts featured the statement "Peace at home, peace in the world".
In addition, Saudi Arabia banned Turkey's national anthem from being switched off before the match. In response, the teams refused to take to the pitch and the match was cancelled 10 minutes before the starting whistle. There is no information about where and when the match for the Turkish Super Cup will now take place.
