Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has come out in favour of the idea of suing FIFA over the expansion of the playing calendar, which leads to an increase in the number of injuries.
Josep GuardiolaEarlier, the head of the footballers' union Maheta Molango announced such an idea. He revealed that his colleagues were ready to consider legal action against FIFA after plans to expand club and international tournaments further narrowed the windows between matches.
According to the Daily Mail, Guardiola recently suggested that players should consider industrial action, which would aim to show their displeasure at the increase in the number of tournaments and matches.
After yesterday's match against Sheffield United, Pep publicly criticised FIFA's actions, "Only the players can make a difference. I have said many times that we have too many matches. The problem is that we only have three weeks of holiday in the summer. That's not enough to recover. Look at the number of injuries."
Manchester City played nine matches in December - six in the APL, two at the Club World Cup and another in the Champions League. The Club World Cup will be expanded to 32 teams from 2025.
