In addition to Benfica, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, Roma and Real Madrid were interested in Marcos Leonardo's services.
Last season, Leonardo scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 31 matches of the Brazilian Serie A. Following the season, Santos dropped to the second division of Brazilian football for the first time in its history.
