According to ESPN, the 27-year-old is likely to undergo surgery due to his persistent tendon problems in his quadriceps. As a result, the Magpies will not be able to count on one of their leaders for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian was injured on 6 January during Newcastle's 3-0 win over Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup. Initially, it was expected that Joelinton would need about six weeks to recover.
