Unable to equalise, Cadiz made their first substitution in the 70th minute, bringing on B. Ocampo instead of I. Alejo and Etta Eyong instead of S. Guardiola. These changes were supposed to give the team fresh energy and possibly break down the Alaves defence. Alaves responded with a triple substitution in the 76th minute. C. Garcia came on in place of S. Omorodion, and C. Vicente came on in place of A. Sola. In the same series of substitutions, G. Escalante replaced A. Fernandez for Cadiz. When the game entered the final stage, the tension increased. In the 84th minute Alaves made the penultimate substitution, replacing C. Benavides with J. Guridi. Guridi. In the 88th minute Cadiz, desperate to save a point, made the last change. J. Zaldua came on in place of A. Negredo, and Lucas Pires was replaced by I. Carcelen. "Alaves" also made two last substitutions in the last minutes of the game. A. Blanco came on the pitch instead of N. Tenaglia, and L. Rioja was replaced by G. Simeone. The match ended with Alaves celebrating a hard-won victory thanks to Rioja's penalty kick. Despite Cadiz's strong play, they were unable to equalise and the Estadio de Mendisorroza spectators were pleased with their team's performance. Both teams showed their determination and resilience, which made the match interesting for the spectators and demonstrated the competitive nature of La Liga.
