Spanish Barcelona has filed a lawsuit against Russian Zenit Zenit at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS), according to the official website of the organisation.
The essence of the dispute between the clubs - in bonus payments related to the transfer of former Barcelona midfielder Malcom to Zenit in 2019.
The fact is that the agreement between the clubs on this transfer fixed bonus payments to Barcelona in case of Zenit's participation in the Champions League before Malcom's transfer to another team. The Russian club entered this tournament in the season-2022/23 (and this fact alone, according to Barcelona, obliges Zenit to pay bonuses), but did not play a single match there due to the expulsion of Russia from all international football competitions. This non-standard situation became the subject of the dispute between the clubs.
We would like to add that the case on the lawsuit of Barcelona against Zenit will be considered by CAS on 22 March.
