On 13 May 2023 FC Dynamo (Kyiv) celebrated its glorious 96th anniversary. Over these years, the team from the banks of the Dnieper River was coached by many specialists. Their charges won medals of the national championships and Cups, won representative international tournaments. The creator of many brilliant victories of Dynamo players was undoubtedly Valeriy Vasilyevich Lobanovsky.
Once again about him, the Maestro of football, about his brilliant achievements.
A native of Kiev, a pupil of the capital's youth football school, he was invited to Dynamo in 1958. Speaking for almost a year in the reserve team, his extraordinary game Lobanovsky attracted the close attention of fans.
On 29 May 1959 he made his debut in the main Dynamo squad in a match against CSKA. In 1960 the striker became the silver medalist of the national championship, and on 17 October 1961 he won the first "gold" as a member of Kyiv team.
For "Dynamo" Lobanovsky played 144 matches and scored 42 goals, two matches played in the USSR national team, seven - in the Olympic team. After spending two seasons in "Chernomorets" (1965-1966) and "Shakhtar" (1967-1968), Lobanovsky left for a coaching job, which brought him well-deserved fame.
He started with Dnipro, which he led first to the first and then to the top league. At the age of 35, the young coach took charge of his native Dynamo, which he served faithfully for many years. Lobanovsky's charges became the champions of the country 8 times, won silver awards 5 times, bronze awards twice, six times Dynamo players brought the Crystal Cup to Kyiv. And also Dynamo won the championship of Ukraine 5 times under Valeriy Vasilyevich's leadership, three times - the Cup of our independent country.
Dynamo players are the winners of two Cup Cups (1975 and 1986) and the UEFA Super Cup (1975). Three wards who passed Lobanovskyi's school became the winners of the Golden Ball - Oleg Blokhin (1975), Igor Belanov (1986) and Andriy Shevchenko (2004). Oleksiy Mykhailichenko is the 1988 Olympic champion, 11 Dynamo Kyiv players are vice-champions of Euro 1988. In 1976, the Olympic team headed by Lobanovsky won bronze medals of the Games in Montreal. 10 Dynamo players from Kyiv played in the team. In 1986, Dynamo was named the second club in the world ranking, and its mentor was recognised as the second coach of the world.
