In the long-awaited UEFA Europa League match, TK Ferencvarosi met Olympiacos from Piraeus at the Groupama Aréna Stadium. At half-time the score was 0-1 in favour of Olympiacos and Ferencvarosi hoped to get back on track in the second half. The first notable event in the match occurred in the 42nd minute when Ferencvarosi's B. Varga received a yellow card. Shortly before the half-time whistle Olympiacos Piraeus were awarded a penalty, which was successfully realised by A. El Kaabi, and the teams went into the break with the score 0:1. At the beginning of the second half Ferencvarosi made two substitutions trying to change the game. K. Kodro and H. Vingo came on instead of A. Pesic and K. Makrekis respectively. However, Olympiacos Piraeus kept the advantage and controlled the midfield.
In the second half, both teams made further substitutions to freshen up their squads. For Ferencvarosi TK, E. Civic and K. Zachariassen replaced C. Ramirez and M. A. Ben Romdan, while for Olympiacos Piraeus, K. Fortunis, A. Orta and S. Jovetic replaced V. Iborra and G. Masouras. In the final minutes of the match Ferencvarosi rushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Olympiacos Piraeus defended staunchly, holding a 0-1 lead. Marquinhos came on in place of B. Katona for Ferencvarosi, while Chiquinho replaced J. Carvalho for Olympiacos Piraeus. Towards the end of the match, Ferencvarosi's M. Abu Fani received a yellow card, but despite their best efforts, Ferencvarosi failed to score a goal. The match ended with a 0-1 win for Olympiacos and three points in the UEFA Europa League.
