This weekend there are matches of the 18th round of the championship of Ukraine season-2023/24, which opens the programme of the tournament in 2024. In one of them on Sunday, 25 February, Kharkiv Metalist 1925 and Dynamo Kyiv met. The match is nominally home for Kharkiv team, but by agreement between the clubs was held in Kyiv at the stadium "Dynamo" named after Valeriy Lobanovskiy.

The match started with a cold shower for Dynamo. Already in the fifth minute one of Metalist 1925 attacks through the central zone ended with Garmash's shot from the penalty area line, and the ball flew under the crossbar of Buschan's goal - 1:0.
In general, Kharkiv team looked very confident not only in defence, but also in attack, but on 12 minutes Dynamo managed to create the first goal moment - it was Popov who shot with his head after a corner kick and the ball whistled over the crossbar of Metalist 1925. And two minutes later Brazhko made his trademark powerful shot from long range - near the bar.
After these two moments "Dynamo" managed to get a tangible advantage and the game moved to the half of Kharkiv team's field. But only for a long time Kyivians could not manage to bring their actions to the actual sharpness at Mozil's goal. It all ended with the fact that having given out an extremely intense segment of the game, Dynamo in the final part of the first half had to slow down, and Metalist 1925 immediately took advantage of it - The game was almost equalised.
Nevertheless, before the half-time whistle Dynamo created several very dangerous moments at the opponent's goal and, eventually, managed to equalise the score. First, Vanat missed a 100% chance - he realised a one-on-one opportunity (Mozil managed to kick the ball away after the Bilo-Syni forward's shot). Then Voloshin shot from the penalty area line, which Metalist 1925 goalkeeper coped with great difficulty. And in the 43rd minute of the match after a corner kick Vanat gave a pass to Kabaev and sent the ball under the crossbar with a shot from 14 metres - 1:1, that's how the first half ended.
The second half also passed under the sign of Dynamo advantage, and on the 62nd minute of the game Oleksandr Shovkovskiy's charges took the lead: Shaparenko successfully played on the interception, through the central zone advanced with the ball to the penalty area of Metalist 1925, gave it to the left to Voloshin, who in a touch played to the far post in expectation of Vanat, and he did not fail, cold-bloodedly striking the Kharkiv team goal - 1:2.
And just seven minutes later, the Bilo-Syni consolidated their success - it was Buyalsky played effectively on the rebound after Mozil kicked the ball in front of him, reacting to Voloshin's shot - 1:3.
However, almost immediately Metalist 1925 scored one goal: Yusov won the fight with Mikhavko on the flank, broke into the penalty area, played on a free Frimpong and he sent the ball into Buschan's goal from close range - 2:3.
However, Dynamo did not stay in debt: three minutes later Shaparenko, having entered the penalty area from the left, struck, the ball hit the bar, bounced right to Vanat and the latter did not miss his chance - 2:4. And only at that the teams decided to stop.
After the played matches Dynamo has 31 points in its asset and occupies the 5th place in the championship standings, falling behind the leading Kryvbas by 6 points, but having three matches in reserve.
We would like to add that in the next round Dynamo will have a home match with Chornomorets from Odessa. This match will take place next Saturday, 2 March, at the Dynamo stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskiy (kick-off - at 15:30).
