Arsenal London head coach Mikel Arteta is receiving offers to sign a new left wing-back to replace Ukrainian international Oleksandr Zinchenko. ESPN columnist Janusz Michalik believes this newcomer should be 28-year-old Spaniard Alex Grimaldo, who currently plays at Bayer Leverkusen.
Grimaldo has been a key figure in Leverkusen's title challenge this season and boasts an impressive stat line of 10 goals and 11 assists, emphasising his attacking prowess from a defensive position. His play has earned him recognition as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
The need for a new player arose when Arsenal started to look for an alternative in the left-back position. Zinchenko's future at the club appears uncertain, while Jurien Timber, another option for Arteta, has been sidelined for a long time due to a cruciate ligament injury to his knee which forced him out for almost a year at the start of the season. After his recovery, Timber could be the ideal left-back option for Arsenal, but Arteta has issues that need to be addressed immediately.
Janusz Michalik made his opinion on the matter clear: "Maybe they need a left-back, I think they need someone special because Kivior can't keep playing there. I don't know how much Zinchenko has left at Arsenal, so I recommend the Canaries pull Grimaldo from Leverkusen. Yes, he's not young anymore, he's 28, but he's unbelievable."
