At half-time both teams made important substitutions to shake things up. Genoa released K. Strootman instead of Frendrup, while Inter replaced Dumfries with Darmian. In the second half, Genoa managed to get back on track and in the 54th minute J. Vazquez scored, making the score 2-1.
The game continued to be tense, with players from both teams receiving yellow cards, including Vazquez and Strootman from Genoa and L. Martinez from Inter. As time wore on, both teams made more substitutions to try and secure the win. Inter had M. Thuram and F. Acerbi in place of Sanchez and Dimarco, while Genoa had D. Spence and Vitinha in place of A. Martin and J. Messias. In the final minutes of the game Inter made two more substitutions: B. Pavard and M. Arnautovic came on in place of J. Bissek and Martinez. Genoa also made a late substitution: S. Sabelli replaced K. Ekuban. As a result, despite Genoa's best efforts in the second half, Inter held on to their advantage and won with a final score of 2-1. The match confirmed the competitive nature of Serie A football and kept the fans in suspense until the final whistle.
