What you need to know about the referee of the match Ukraine - Iceland: personal statistics, statistics of meetings with Ukraini

As previously reported, UEFA has named the refereeing team for the final play-off match of the Euro 2024 qualifying round between Ukraine and Iceland, which will take place tomorrow in Wroclaw. All referees represent France, and the chief referee of the match will be Clement Turpin.

The 41-year-old Turpen has been officiating matches in France's elite division since 2008, and he became a FIFA referee in 2010.

Interestingly, this is the second time in his career this Frenchman will work as the chief referee for the match between Ukraine and Iceland: in the season 2016/17 Turpen served in Kiev match between these teams in the qualifying cycle of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. That meeting ended in a draw, 1:1.

In total, Turpen worked at three matches involving the national team of Ukraine (in all cases - draw results), as well as five times served European Cup matches involving Dynamo Kyiv.

Last time the French referee was appointed by UEFA in October last year, for the Champions League group stage match between Italian Napoli and Real Madrid (4 yellow cards, 0 penalties, 1 penalty).

In total, Turpen has 154 international matches under his belt, including 25 - within the qualifying cycles of the World and European Championships and the final stages of these tournaments.

We would like to add that the head referee of the Ukraine vs Iceland match is quite a loyal referee: Turpen shows an average of three yellow cards per game, and removes (direct red card) players - in every fifth match under his arbitration.
