Ukrainian coach Serhii Kovalets shared his forecast for the decisive match of the Ukrainian national team in the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Iceland.
- "The match against Bosnia and Herzegovina was an interesting match in terms of tactical moments. Although, I think our players lacked a little emotion. The Bosnians' positional defence was at a high level, and when the hosts scored their goal, it became clear that something needed to be changed. But again, I repeat that the substitutions were decisive, when Ruslan Malinowski, Oleksiy Hutsulyak and Roman Yaremchuk appeared on the pitch. Moreover, at the end of the match, Savo Milosevic's men were noticeably tired.
"From the match against Iceland, I, like all Ukrainians, expect our national team to win and reach the finals of the 2024 European Championship. In the first match, our team was under psychological pressure, saying that we were favourites and had to pass the opponent easily. Now, I think, this will no longer be the case, and the Blue and Yellows will act more relaxed. Although, of course, the meeting will not be easy, because the Icelanders are also eager to make it to the European Championships.
What is my prediction for the match? 3-1 in favour of our team. And I really hope that the Icelanders will score a goal that will be just a prestige goal. At the same time, in recent years, the Ukrainian national team has taught us that the team can achieve results while losing during the game - this shows that the Blue and Yellows have character and class," said Serhiy Ivanovych.
