News from the camp of Ukraine's rival in the Euro 2024 group. Head coach of the Slovak national team Francesco Calzona explained the choice of sparring partners of his team for the period of preparation for the European Championship.
Francesco CalzonaIn March, the Slovaks played friendlies against Austria (0:2) and Norway (1:1), and just before Euro 2024 they will test their strength in sparring matches against San Marino (5 June) and Wales (9 June).
"I am keen to see improvements in our game. That's why, when choosing our sparring partners, we initially targeted teams that are above us in the FIFA rankings. But they all refused to play us. Therefore, we had to play matches against Austria and Norway. Apparently, the best teams in Europe don't know our true strength yet," Calzona said at a press conference after the friendly with Norway.
