Former midfielder of Dynamo Kyiv and now a well-known Ukrainian coach Serhii Kovalets told UPL TV about the main problems of the teams in the spring part of the Ukrainian championship season.
Sergey Kovalets- Do you see Dynamo as a contender for the championship?
- The championship is interesting when several teams are fighting for the gold, as it is now in England and Spain. It's good that this season there are Kryvbas and Dnipro-1, who are also contenders for the championship. I believe that Shakhtar, Kryvbas and Dynamo are the main contenders for the trophy.
- What are the reasons for Polissia's failures in the spring part of the season?
- The team has just entered the UPL and has already reached the semi-finals of the Cup. In my opinion, it was necessary to leave Kalitvintsev at the helm. But, of course, it's up to the club's management. And it was their decision. But they still have a chance to compete for the trophy. It's very difficult to accept a team during the season, because you need to figure out what the reason for the failures is. I like this team, the atmosphere at the stadium is good. They can still have it.
- Why are things so bad for Metalist 1925 with Viktor Skrypnyk?
- Skrypnyk has proved to be a good coach. But he made a lot of changes, new players came in. The team before him was at the bottom of the standings, there was pressure. Obviously, it is not easy for the players to be under this pressure. We received a lot of advances. The coach definitely needs time.
- What happened to Oleksandriya in the match against Minaj?
- It was a winning game for them. Although Minaj was highly motivated. Of course, it happens that when you miss the ball, problems arise. Of course, if Kirill Kovalets had scored a penalty, it would have been easier for them. But I have to give credit to Minaj, they fought with dignity to the end and do so in every match. "I like Oleksandriya, they have a lot of young players. In the first round, there were 7 young players and 4 experienced ones. Now it's the other way round. Therefore, there is a result, there is a pattern of the game and chemistry. I have questions about Kovalets' second yellow card. But this is football. The management has confidence in the coach and I think the team can achieve good results next year.
