On 3 April, the draw for the final stage of Euro 2024 (U-17) took place, as a result of which the youth national team of Ukraine got into Group A, where it will play against the teams of Cyprus (hosts), Serbia and the Czech Republic. The head coach of the Blue and Yellows, Yuriy Moroz, spoke about his immediate plans and shared his opinion on the opponents.
"In general, we were satisfied with the results of the draw, at least given the composition of the teams in Quartet D. We have an even group, so each participant has a chance to reach the quarter-finals. It will be difficult with Cyprus, if only because they are the hosts of the competition. In Serbia and the Czech Republic, youth football is developing well, and these countries often participate in the final tournaments of the continental championship. It will be difficult for everyone. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian national team will do everything possible to reach the play-offs...
As for the training plans, they have not changed: On 9 and 11 April we will play two sparring matches with the Cyprus national team, despite the fact that they are our rivals in the group. In the upcoming matches, our squad will change by 50 per cent. There will be an opportunity to see other players in action, maybe one of the guys will make a name for himself and get into the team's application for the European Championship.
As for the final phase of preparation, I plan to start working in Cyprus on 10 or 12 May. Although we understand that the timing may change depending on the situation in the country," Moroz said.
