An occupation worthy of real men
Bazilevich is a native of Kiev. The first "organised" football team in his childhood was Stroitel at the Start stadium. And then FSM (Football School of Youth).
But Oleg's parents had completely different plans for the future for their son, who was easily given to study at secondary school. And they did not connect the fate of their heir with football.
However, FSM coach Vladimir Balakin convinced them that football is a serious occupation, worthy of a real man. One of the arguments was the scholarship of young players 800 rubles, much more at that time the salary of an engineer.
In FSM was so serious training that soon Bazilevich was invited to Dynamo. Two years he had to run for the double. But already in the 1959 season, with the arrival on the coaching bridge of Dynamo Vyacheslav Solovyov, the striker from 1960 to 1965 "secured" for himself the place of the right wing forward.
Lobanovskiy's feed, Bazilevich's header - goal!
As it should be the right winger Bazil (as he was fondly called by fans) was the fastest in the team. In addition, he had a decent dribbling, soft plastic movements. However, Oleg's speciality at his not very high height (175 cm) was enviable leaping ability, the ability to fly the highest near the far post of the opponent's goal. And he scored goals after corner kicks from the left flank by Valery Lobanovsky.
"The ball from Lobanovskyi's feed was scored by Bazilevich" - how many times the Republican Stadium "exploded" after such an announcement of the announcer.
"This game combination Lobanovskiy and I worked out for hours, after all the players had already gone to the locker room after training", - once in a conversation with journalists the seventh number of Dynamo shared.
The first "gold", the second Cup
Oleh Bazilevich named the most memorable goals scored by Oleh Bazilevich as two effective strikes against Spartak Moscow in the second cup semi-final match in Moscow (September 1964). Kievians then won - 3:2.
Then in the "white-blue" in the final defeated "Krylia Sovetov" (Kuibyshev) 1:0. It was the second cup triumph in the biography of Dynamo Kyiv.
In the championship of the USSR-1961 the Kyivians won their first "gold", breaking the 25-year hegemony of Moscow clubs. Oleg Bazilevich scored 9 goals in that championship.
At the end of the season Vyacheslav Solovyov's wards went to England for friendly matches. And in the homeland of football Oleg Bazilevich showed a high level. The local press deservedly appreciated the game of the skilful right wing-back of the Ukrainian club.
Leaving Dynamo, Bazilevich played for Chernomorets in 1966. Then until the middle of 1968 he played for Shakhtar. And on the eve of his 30th birthday he finished his career as a player.
Became an excellent coach
However, Oleg Petrovich did not leave football, becoming a successful coach. He worked in Donetsk. He led Shakhtar from the First League to the Higher League. He coached Dynamo Minsk, Pakhtakor Tashkent, Slavia (Bulgaria, Sofia), the national team of Ukraine (1992-1994).
Valeriy Lobanovsky, having led Dynamo Kyiv, invited his friend and former partner in Dynamo attack to work together. In 1975, this brilliant duo announced themselves to the whole world.
In May, Dynamo won their first European trophy - the Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Hungarian Ferencvaros (Budapest) 3-0 in the final, which took place in Basel, Switzerland.
And in September and October they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 (away) and 2-0 (in Kiev) and won the UEFA Super Cup. The Bavarians (at that time the winner of the European Champions Cup) had 9 world champions.
Basilevich also worked in Kuwait as a coach of the Olympic team. At the same time Valery Lobanovsky headed the national team of this country.
This world honoured coach of Ukraine Oleg Petrovych Bazilevich left in 2018 at the age of 80. He is buried in the capital's Baykov cemetery, resting next to Valery Lobanovsky in the heavenly "team" of Dynamo players with many of his partners and charges.
