They are ready to offer the midfielder a substantial pay rise as part of the new negotiations. Under these terms, his salary will increase from £180k per week to around £300k, making him one of the highest paid players at the club.
The champions will want to keep him until at least 2030. Negotiations are not expected to start before the end of this season, in which City are still fighting for trophies in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League after a phenomenal treble last season.
