Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told a meeting of the country's government the sad story of the murder of the national pride, Dynamo Tbilisi.
"Dynamo Tbilisi — winner of the 1981 Cup of Cups- I want to remind you what happened around Dynamo Tbilisi. A businessman was brought from Russia who had no idea about football. He was given our national pride, Dynamo Tbilisi, our historic club, and was brought to the brink of destruction. All these years we have not been successful in European tournaments. Also, if we look at today, Dynamo has 12 points in ten matches and is fifth in the Georgian league. Our proud sports club has been brought to this situation.
Not so long ago, the people who are now in charge of Dynamo wanted to build buildings on the territory of Dynamo's historic base. Of course, we will not allow this. It will take us years to recover from the damage done to the sport," the Prime Minister said.
