On 14 May 1975, at the St Jakob Stadium in Basel, Dynamo Kyiv played in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup for the first time in its history. The opponent of Valeriy Lobanovsky's team was Hungarian Ferencvaros, who undoubtedly also intended to win the honourable trophy.

Goals: Onishchenko (18, 39), Blokhin (67).

"Dynamo: Rudakov, Konkov, Reshko, Fomenko, Matvienko, Troshkin, Muntyan, Kolotov, Onishchenko, Buryak, Blokhin.

"Ferencvaros: Gyetzi, Martos, Pataki, Rab, Medjesi, Juhas, Nilosy (Onhaus, 60), Mucha, Szabo, Mate, Magyar.

With the opening whistle, both teams clearly demonstrated that they were not going to sit back and wait for the opponent to make a mistake and actively moved forward. However, while the Hungarians did not bring their efforts to Rudakov's goal, Dynamo opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Being on the right flank, Buriak spotted Blokhin, who was on the opposite side, and with a perfect pass forty metres away literally put the ball into the striker's feet. Oleg could well have moved towards the goal himself, but he found Onishchenko in a favourable position in front of the penalty area, who scored an unstoppable goal.

Valeriy Lobanovsky's men immediately tried to consolidate their success by pinning the demoralised opponent in their own half of the field, but they only managed to double their lead shortly before the end of the first half. Onyshchenko, on the right wing, received a pass from Muntyan, approached the penalty area and unexpectedly for everyone - both the opposition and his own team - shot from 25 metres out, hitting the back of the net. This goal was Onyshchenko's seventh in the tournament, making him Dynamo's top scorer in last year's Cup competition, with all seven of his goals coming in the first half (the striker also scored once away and twice at home against Eintracht, once away against Bursaspor and once at home against PSV).

Ferencvaros started the second half aggressively, showing that they had nothing to lose, but Dynamo quickly calmed the game down and, controlling the ball a lot through passing, turned it into a comfortable direction. And in the 66th minute, Kyiv managed to score another goal, making the last 25 minutes of the match a formality. Muntyan again did an excellent job as a conductor, finding Blokhin on his usual left flank with a pass from the centre circle, and Oleg boldly headed for the goal, beating three opponents on his way, and scored accurately in the near corner. It is noteworthy that while Onyshchenko scored his seven goals in the 1974/1975 Cup in the first half, Blokhin scored his five goals in the second 45 minutes.

Valerii Lobanovskyi, Dynamo head coach: "We won the final match primarily due to our well-developed tactics. The plan for the game was to deprive the opponent of operational space, not to allow Ferencvaros to play on counterattacks, the sharpness of which we knew the Hungarian team was capable of. When the attacks were disrupted, we had to immediately move back and thereby create operational space for ourselves. The team fulfilled the game task. The course of the match and the result speak for themselves. Dynamo's success in the tournament was ensured by careful preparation for all the matches of this tournament, the creation of models of play with specific opponents, and the fact that all the players clearly fulfilled everything planned. It should be said that we faced a number of difficulties before the game with Ferencvaros. In particular, several players were seriously injured on the eve of the match."

Oleg Bazylevych, Dynamo coach: "We have been waiting for this victory, believed in it, fought hard and, it seems, did everything we could. We knew that we were favourites in the final, and we are doubly happy to have won so convincingly and unconditionally. Our team played a class game that left no doubt about the legitimacy of their success in the tournament."

Ene Dalnoki, head coach of Ferencvaros:"Dynamo's teamwork, understanding and mutual assistance were fantastic! We were outplayed in all components of the game today. I admire Dynamo and declare: another superclub has appeared in Europe!"
