The Brazilian Football Confederation has decided to postpone the next two rounds of the championship due to flooding in the southern half of the country.
Fifteen of the twenty clubs in Brazil's Serie A asked for the postponement after the floods claimed the lives of at least 149 people. Another 108 are still missing. The centre of the disaster is Rio Grande do Sul, where it has been raining almost continuously for several weeks. "Porto Alegre, Gremio and Internacional have been unable to hold normal training sessions, and the same applies to Juventude. The three teams have not played an official match since the end of April, when the floods began. The worst situation is with the Gremio stadium, which can only be reached by boat.
The championship is expected to resume on 1 June with the ninth round matches.
