According to Relevo, among all the goalkeepers in the top 5 European leagues who played at least 900 minutes in all competitions in 2023-2024, Lunin has the tenth highest save percentage (76.52%). Almost the same percentage as Courtois' in 2022-2023 (76.44%) and slightly lower than the Belgian's in the 2021-2022 season (77.44%). The number of shots saved was also similar: 10.79 per 90 minutes for Lunin and 11.31 for Courtois.
In addition, last season Courtois conceded 56 goals out of 68 expected (18%). Instead, Lunin's save percentage was 23% - 32 goals scored out of a potential 41.
Thus, Courtois' main advantage is his status and experience - many still remember the 2022 final against Liverpool, in which the Belgian showed an exceptional performance, making nine saves.
As a reminder, the duel between Real Madrid and Borussia D will take place on 1 June at Wembley.
