"I will miss playing for the French national team, but I have to give up my place in the team to younger players," L'Equipe quoted Giroud as saying.

It will be recalled that Giroud made his debut for the French national team in 2011 (129 matches, 56 goals and 12 assists) and is now the best scorer in the team's history. The striker won the 2018 World Cup.
