A well-known Ukrainian journalist Mykola Nesenyuk dedicated a post on Facebook to the latest scandal surrounding Myron Markevych.
One of the most respected Ukrainian coaches of our time has recently become embroiled in a scandal after allegedly refusing to accept a silver medal for the second place that his Karpaty team took in the first (but actually second) league tournament of Ukrainian football.
To understand Myron Markevych's emotions, it should be recalled that in all his many years of coaching, this outstanding specialist has not won a single title or trophy with his teams. In the championships, he did not rise above second or third place, and in the cups, he lost all the finals. It seemed that this time, Karpaty, led by Markevych last summer, would have no trouble winning the first league - if rumours are to be believed, the team's strictly classified budget, according to our long-standing traditions, was larger than the budget of the rest of the teams in the league combined. But again, it didn't work out - in the last game, Karpaty lost to Ingulets and lost first place.
This did not affect anything fundamentally - both teams were promoted and will play in the league of the strongest. The only pity is that Ingulets coach Vladyslav Lupashko, who is Myron Markevych's grandson, won his first title in his first full season in charge. It's not a big deal - 73 years old is not an old age in today's times! I am confident that Myron Markevych will prove his unique coaching talent once again and will win his first title one day. After all, there is also a second league for this...
