Former player of Karpaty, Tavria, Arsenal Kyiv and other Ukrainian clubs Maksym Feshchuk shared his opinion about some positions in the base lineup of the Ukraine national team for Euro-2024.
Yaremchuk or Dovbik?
- This is a question to which the answer is obvious. As of today, such a question should not even be asked. Look at the season Dovbik had, how he looks now, and look at the season Yaremchuk had. Yes, also in a good Spanish championship, in a normal team. But there is a "small" difference. Yaremchuk has a club career at the club level, although in Europe, but it's been a long time since he's had a club career. Yes, he is a very good and quality forward for our national team, and it's great that we have at least two of them - but we shouldn't forget about Vanata.
Dovbik is definitely a starting lineup player. And he shows it on the field, he has 2 goals, and the season has shown it. What arguments can there be here? If we leave him on the bench and release him for strengthening, and Yaremchuk in the core, it may be some tactics of the coach. But for me it would be at least strange.
Lunin or Trubin?
- Trubin is in Benfica - super, cool. But Lunin plays for Real Madrid. And the playing time he had, he spent at a very high level. And undeservedly did not stand in the Champions League final. After all, he is a representative of Real Madrid and a very high quality goalkeeper. I think that Lunin will definitely be number 1.
Who will probably need to replace Mikolenko?
- Probably, Zinchenko will replace him. But the question of the starting lineup of the Ukraine national team is formed by its coaching staff. Conditionally speaking, to see Stepanenko in the supporting zone today - yes, he is a legend of Ukrainian soccer, probably the leader of the locker room, but look how Brazko looked in the matches he played in. Where is the right decision - everyone has their own opinion.
You say that Mikolenko is a loss, but we have a versatile Zinchenko - he can play both left-back and in the center of the field wherever you want. And he really strengthens the team in any position, - said Feshchuk.
