Last Wednesday, the Ukrainian national team continued preparations for the 2nd round of the Euro 2024 group stage match against Slovakia, which will take place this Friday, June 21, in Dusseldorf. Unlike the previous day, when only 16 players took part in the game session, all the players of the Ukrainian national team worked out on the field of the Stadion am Halberg yesterday.
By the way, this stadium was once the main playing ground for SC Ween, before the construction of the new Brita Arena in Wiesbaden. This is not surprising, given that the red and black club was founded in Taunusstein.
This time, the Blue and Yellows' training session was completely closed: according to the tournament regulations, before each match, the head coach has the opportunity to conduct one training session with his team without the presence of the media. After jogging, warming up and holding the ball in squares, the Ukrainian national team held a recovery training session, which is quite expected after working in different groups the day before.
The main focus was on creating and realizing goal chances. On the instructions of the coaching staff, the teams played combinations in a limited time frame with a mandatory finish. The focus was on the quality of the attack and the improvement of goal-scoring chances. The training session was highly concentrated - all the players are fully focused on preparing for the match against Slovakia.
Today, after breakfast, the Blue and Yellows will travel by bus to Düsseldorf, 200 kilometers from Taunusstein. The organizers of Euro 2024 are taking care of the pitch, which was seriously damaged after the previous match and a heavy downpour. Therefore, only the pre-match press conference of head coach Serhiy Rebrov and player Oleksandr Zinchenko will take place at the Düsseldorf Arena (starting at 18:30 Kyiv time). Instead, the official training session of the Blue and Yellows, like that of the Slovak national team, will take place at the Paul Janes Stadium, the old Fortuna Düsseldorf arena named after the 1930s German national team defender with whom Fortuna won its only national title in 1933.
The Ukrainians' pre-match training session will start at 19:45 Ukrainian time. Traditionally, the first 15 minutes will be open to the media.
