Famous Ukrainian coach Mykola Pavlov spoke about the most difficult decision in his coaching career.
"The most difficult decision during my coaching career? Probably, it was when I refused to run for the position of head coach of Dynamo Kyiv. After we became champions (in 1995, Pavlov was acting coach of the team - ed. note), I could have run for the job and most likely would have become head coach, but I said that I was not ready for it yet.
I don't know to the end whether I was right then or not. But, knowing that Valery Lobanovsky is still working somewhere else and may return in the future, I told Grigory Surkis that I would not apply for this position. That's what happened later. Lobanovsky returned and took over Dynamo.
I still have warm relations with Hryhoriy Mykhailovych and Ihor Mykhailovych Surkis. And we always kept in close contact with Valeriy Vasylovych until the last days of his life. We even went to the training camp in Yalta together with the teams," Ukrainian Football quoted Pavlov as saying.
